KMAM(Kualiti Mutu Air Minum) - GROUP A1

Points of discussion are as below:


1.Water Source from rivers --------->water treatment plant-----> storage ----->distributed to the public

2Problems faced mainly is the water pollution due to:
1.       Poor disposal system
2.       Toxics from the factories
3.       Toxic or chemical spillage due to increase transportation of chemicals  via land
4.       Reverse flow due to illegal connection to main pipe


3.Methods-   chemical and physical filtration

Sampling water-  from Loji- every week
                                  From rangkaian – every month

There are total of  41 sampling point in Kota Setar District

4.The sample collected would be sent to Chemical department for investigation if the sample is contaminated. Then there would be a corrective report issued. Second sample taken from the same place and also check for contamination especially the main pipes

The sampling aspects for the water treatment plant
Microbiology ( eg- E.coli, pH) – every week
Short chemistry (Cl, NH3) – every month
Long chemistry ( Hg, Cd,As, Pb, Cr, Cu) – 3monthly
Pesticide- 3 monthly

Procedure of water sampling

Water taken , if from  river without sodium thiosulphate but if chlorinated water must be with sodium thiosulphate.  The water pH taken which must be between 6.5-9 and  and TDS( total dissolve solute).
Add chloride reagent and if excess chlorine the colour would turn pink colour.
